CHRIST THE KING
CENTENARY CELEBRATION
WORLDWIDE EUCHARISTIC PROCESSION
The City of Derry will, once again, lead and host the second Worldwide Eucharistic Procession, in honour of Christ the King in this, the 100th Anniversary of the renowned Catholic Feast Day on the 23rd November 2025. Led by Bishop Donal McKeown the event, which will be covered globally on social media. The event will commence with 24hrs of Eucharist Adoration in the Termonbacca Carmelite Retreat Centre, at 8.30am on Saturday 22nd November - ending at 8.00am on Sunday 23rd November 2025.
Organised by volunteers from Derry in collaboration with Catholic Parishes all over the world, the first ever Worldwide Eucharistic Procession, took place In Derry in February of this year. The event was such a success that 5,000 people in Derry alone took part in a procession with the Holy Eucharist Monstrance on show through the streets of Derry. The event also took place simultaneously in 70 parishes across six continents from Africa to America, Rome to Rwanda, Italy to India, the first of its kind organised by the laity in collaboration with priests and bishops.
Holy Mass and Eucharistic Procession
This year the Holy Mass will take place on Sunday 23rd November 2025 at 12pm in St Columba’s Chapel, the Long Tower, followed by the Eucharistic Procession led by Bishop Donal McKeown. The procession will take the familiar route of walking through Bishop St. onto the Diamond, down Shipquay St., then towards the Peace Bridge, then walking down the Quay to the second Jetty, beside the council offices.
Blessing the River Foyle
Three boats being supplied by Foyle Search and Rescue will carry Bishop Donal and several clergy to each of the three bridges. This is to commemorate the three falls of Christ, and to bless the waters in commemoration for all the Holy Souls of Ireland and for all those families that have been affected by suicide, mental health and anxiety. The boats will take about 50 mins, while this is happening the crowds will line the Quay in prayer. The Legion of Mary will be leading the Three Mysteries of the Holy Rosary along with praying the Divine Mercy Chaplet.
Onward to Ebrington Square
Then the procession will walk over the Peace Bridge where Bishop Donal will bless and consecrate the Foyle River and all the rivers of Ireland to St. Columba, then moving onto Ebrington Square where a stage and a choir will await Bishop Donal to continue with Benediction an afternoon of prayer and music finishing for 4.30pm.
Invitation to All
The clergy are invited to come out, support and help assist in the event and families are encouraged to bring their children to this event. For all those present they will receive Rosary beads, Miraculous Medals, Prayer cards and other sacramentals as a keep’s sake as stocks last.
According to the organisers, this global event is not just a procession, it is the ongoing Eucharistic Revival, that’s helping to bring to light St Patrick's prophecy that a light would start in the North and spread throughout the whole of Ireland and onto the UK and continental Europe.
Children's Involvement in this Centenary Celebration
This is why bringing the children is so important, to pass this Eucharistic flame of love and revival "from nation to nation and heart to heart.”
The Children’s Rosary, the Children of The Eucharist and the Children of Fatima will accompany Bishop Donal in Rosary and song. Many of the local prayer groups from all over Ireland have already purchased flags and banners and are coming to Derry to join in the procession.
